Ever had thoughts of doing something to make a difference in this world—especially in a child’s world? I have, and it started when I observed children who didn’t show love or respect to a pet or any other animal. This was disturbing to me.
I asked myself how I could personally help remedy these actions among our young people. The answer came and was delightful! I began seeing images and words forming into a story about a little dog I once knew. From the time of the tornado, this story is a true account of that dog’s life.
I hope the differences in the actions of the two families in this story will be an example of poor versus wonderful treatment of a domestic animal. When Billy and Lucy gave their new puppy the generic name of Fido, they initially showed a disappointing lack of caring and thoughtfulness. But when Judy named her puppy Angel, she showed deep affection and appreciation.
I have enjoyed the challenge of writing my first published story for children. With the warm feelings I have for animals, I plan to produce many more stories to encourage young ones to love and respect their pets and animals of all kinds.
Thanks to Bill Cummins for the encouragement to go forward with my idea. Thanks, also, to both Bill and his wife Ann for their help and leadership.
To my family who said, “Go for it!”—thank you.
Thank you, John Hilleary, for the great illustrations. Without you, this book would never have been completed.
Last, but not least, deepest thanks to Christina Becker for the beautiful colors and artfully painted pictures. Thank you so much.
